Woodley Sports FC is pleased to announce the appointment of a new manager; Gareth McClelland has been caretaker boss since the resignation of Trevor MacFarlane late into November.
Gareth enjoyed a great start in his caretaker role as he lead his side to an unbeaten run which included a Cheshire Senior Cup win against Blue Square outfit Vauxhall Motors during December.
In January he has continued to impress with victories against table toppers Lancaster City and a Cheshire Senior Cup semi at Cammell Laird.
Off field he has introduced a supporters club at a local High School, a new coaching course for youngsters that have left school without qualifications & established a new coaching team lead by UEFA A coach Phil Sherwood & UEFA B coach Matt Reese.
Gareth states: “We have lost 3 senior players in Gavin Salmon, Russ Headley and Ben Connect. These players had a wealth of experience, but we have brought in several younger players that are eager to impress, the average age of the team is 19.8, the camaraderie within the dressing room is our secrete weapon, we have a great bunch of lads that stick together and most importantly are good mates - this makes my job a lot easier. I am grateful that the board of directors have given me this opportunity, I will work very hard to repay their loyalty ”
